BitCo Company Profile

BitCo is a licensed telecommunications provider with licence numbers 0135/IECNS/JAN/2009 & 0135/ECNS/JAN/2009 providing Voice over IP; Wireless; PBX and call centre Solutions.

BitCo was established in March 2006, by Garth van Sittert (BSc Physics and Computer Science). After graduating, Garth worked for an Internet Service Provider and felt stifled in his position. Garth opted to develop his own product. He researched the Asterisk open-source telephony solution and quickly identified VoIP and VoIP PBX solutions as the next generation medium for business telephony. BitCo was started.

BitCo employed its first technical engineer and rented office space in Bryanston in June 2007. Michael Colin joined BitCo as Sales Manager in 2007.

Michael Colin began his career selling traditional PABX systems and had established his own company. Michael found that technology was advancing rapidly and the market was changing. When he learned about BitCo’s advanced technology he joined BitCo. By 2008, Michael had closed his business and joined forces with Garth. The combination of Garth’s passion for technology and innovation coupled with Michael’s sales experience and business intuition brought with it an unrivaled partnership of technology and sales.

Following the deregulation in the telecommunications industry in 2009, BitCo was now able to offer Voice over IP in conjunction with PBXs, thus reducing clients’ telephony expenses drastically. This value added service moved BitCo into a far more competitive position in their market. By 2009 BitCo had outgrown its premises and moved to larger office space in Olivedale. Despite the economic downturn, BitCo has continued to grow as consumer needs for viable and cost effective telephony solutions increased. Garth, Michael and Scott Mobey then established a   company called BitLink which offers microwave wireless links.

In 2011, BitCo acquired IECS & IECNS licenses and added its own number ranges to its repertoire, this enabled BitCo to become a fully-fledged licensed operator. Today, BitCo also boasts three points of presence in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town. In its aim to provide customised VoIP solutions that are cost effective and efficient, BitCo is able to offer turn-key solutions for all your telephony requirements.
